PUNE: Up-and-coming young Malaysian shuttlers made waves at the Com monwealth Youth Games (CWYG), winning gold, silver and bronze medals on the last day of the badminton event late on Friday. It was an all-Malaysian affair in the men’s doubles final, where the Yew Hong Kheng-Ow Yao Han pair beat Lim Yu Sheng-Low Wei Sheng for the gold in an exhilarating three games which took 30 minutes.

Hong Kheng-Yao Han lost the first game 14-21 but bounced back to win the next two at 21-13 and 21-14.“It was a tough game. We were under pressure because they played very well in the first set. But we managed to come back to win. It was a nice victory. Our next target is the Malaysian satellite (tournament),” said Hong Kheng. Winners: Yew Hong Kheng and Ow Yao Han won the doubles’ gold.

Earlier, Ng Hui Ern-Lim Ee Von easily defeated the New Zealand pair of Jonggowisastro-Mary O’Connor 21-8, 21-19 for the bronze in the women’s doubles.The three medals boosted Malay sia’s total haul in the third edition of the Games to 13 €” three gold, four silver and six bronze medals.
